This is the last clutch of the Purple Martins. A day before the picture was taken, there were 4 birds, but as of today (4 days later) they all left the nest. I had to lower the bird house because the Martins were upset and acted like they didn't want to land on the house. I thought a snake got in one of the nests (this happens, sometimes), so I lowered it & found 1 dead starling that must have become stuck in one of the gourds (yea!), but there were 2 dead adult Martins in another nest box. I guess the flies & smell upset the rest of the birds. They settled down after I removed the dead bodies! This year was a good year for my Martins.
