I live at Waterstone in Homestead. On Mother's day, I spotted, high in the thermals, a bald eagle, my first in this area. Two days ago, while fishing on my lake, I saw what I initially believed to be another one. It was flying heading south west over my subdivision (Floridian Bay Estates II). Maybe 25 minutes later it returned and flew onto a pole on the canal that runs north and south and the east end of our lake. I immediately went after my spotting scope and confirmed that it was a bald eagle! It is about 3.5 -4 ft tall - the wing spand was significantly longer! Today (6/20/08), while sitting in the office of my home, a shadow from my window caught my eye - yes, the eagle! It was flying north towards my window and hurled above my house! What a siting! Immediately, I went to my rear window overlooking the lake and visually followed it. The eagle flew to the pole where it landed before.
I went outside to set up my scope and he flew down the canal south. I lost him for a while but located it flying high above in the thermals again! Is this unusual for this time of year? To see the eagle so low-flying was awesome (in sub-division at window level!). Anna Baylis-DeNeen, Raptor lover!
