24 Greater Flamingos in Biscayne Bay

On Tuesday evening, at approx. 8pm, Brian Booth and I were shocked to watch 24 flamingos fly less than 100 feet off the bow of our skiff. We were stopped just off the mangrove shoreline on the point (Shoal Point on some charts) 2 1/2 miles south of the Matheson Hammock boat ramp. The birds were flying south along the shoreline in a "v" formation. They were flying low and giving their "honk" flight call. We lost sight of them as they rounded the point.
There was a falling tide exposing grass flats. Perhaps they were going to feed on the west side of the Bay.
This might beat the 70+ Snake Bight Flamingos I had during an Everglades NAMC count. With those I was certain at least one was a Yucatan bird. Where the #%$& were these Biscayne birds coming from and where the *$&@ were they going?
