Hi Joshua:

I hope you keep those psittacids "indoors". God knows we have enough exotics flying/crawling/walking or otherwise moving around freely down here in South Florida! Lol. Anyway, welcome. Being from Cape Coral, you're closer to my neck of the woods (Naples) than to Miami. I'm the immediate past president of the [Ft. Myers] Caloosa Bird Club. From November thru April we have monthly meetings and weekly (Monday) fieldtrips. You're welcome to attend any or all of these activities. Check out our website. There is a wealth of good info for new-to-the-area birders. I devised the site about 5-6 years ago and was the webmaster for several years. I have since relegated that chore to someone else in the club. Go here:

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me.

BTW, just because the "season" has ended and the "human" snowbirds have all gone north, that doesn't mean that those of us who live down here year round stop birding! The summer is the time for our nesting birds to "do their thing". It is about the only time you're liable to see Gray Kingbirds and Swallow-tailed Kites for example. I lead monthly tours out to STA-5 (Storm Treatment Area 5) in Hendry County all summer long. You're welcome to attend any of those tours. Go here for the schedule:

Beginning in late July, fall migration begins with shorebirds coming through the interior part of Florida, south of Lake Okeechobee. We bird the sod farms out there through September for avian "goodies" like Upland, Pectoral & Solitary Sandpipers; rarities like Ruff and Hudsonian Godwit; Black & Gull-billed Terns and many other great birds. There's always someone reporting their findings for these areas on the TAS Miami Bird Board so keep watching it! Good luck.
