Don't let the fact that the bird never came to the ground bother you. Unlike Connecticut and MacGillivray's warblers, Mournings will often forage in branches a bit higher than you would expect. Although I've personally never seen them forage that high (usually mid-level), I know they do. These last photos don't make it any easier so I'm gonna step down and see what the others say.
