Try to take Larry's advice and get a kayak out to Garden Key if your goal is primarily the Red-footed Booby. It's a half mile over to Long Key...far enough that the view is quite poor from the dock. I can share my very (very!) poor photographs if you want proof! Just be sure to keep a safe distance from Long Key to avoid disturbing the nesting frigatebirds.
