In early March I hung a screech owl house in our mahogany tree for Mossy. Within a few weeks we began to see a screech owl from time to time in the back yard. Now almost every night it shows up about 8 p.m.
Mossy is ecstatic. The model is a Cypress Joy for screech owls purchased from songbirdgarden.com It is 15 feet off the ground and, held in position using two brass plumbing chains wrapped around the limb rather than driving nails into the tree. The reason for the chain is that allows for adjustment as the tree grows and enhances portability if the occasion arises. Also it does less harm to the tree.
