I find the book "Parrots of the World " to be pretty good ( author: Forshaw). From what I have learned about hookbills, there are many subspecies because many are very regional, especially in South America. I don't think hybridization is that common at all. It's just that alot of these birds have never been seen in person and therefore the birders get confused ( which is easy to do).
If anyone knows of a better reference book on psittacines, I would like the name and author. Thanks!
