This week on my way to work I passed an area where there are nesting Swallow-tailed Kites. I observed 3 people with binoculars and cameras watching/photographing the kites; they were walking all over the front yard and driveway of a private residence, obviously angling for a "better look" (the birds are easily observable from the road).
It may be they had been given permission by the owner to do so, but I felt the need to remind everyone to respect private property and to stay solely on public rights-of-way unless given express permission otherwise.
When even one birder and/or photographer violates this common courtesy, it can lead to anger/backlash by property owners against everyone (such as with the Bananaquit in FtL), and makes people reluctant to report intersesting birds.
Sorry for the off-topic comment, but I feel it needed to be said.
