After screaming and cussing at the unruly starlings and straining all of my cognitive powers for days, I MAY have come up with an answer.

From the fall of dark until daylight the owl house is left open. During the day I close it. The hope is, one night the screechers will homestead and thereafter keep the starlings at bay.

The house is over 14 feet up in a mahogany tree. Since my bones are not as pliable as they once were I devised an implement that can be used to block the hole... two, ten foot lengths of 1 1/4 inch, electrical, PVC pipe mated together without glue. On one end is a 90 degree "water use" elbow, also not glued but, pressed in firmly. I hook the elbow into the hole and leave it and, the pipe in place during the day and remove it at night.

Mossy wants her owls and she wants them now! A guy has to do something to keep her happy, cooking and working.
