It is quite true that postings here sometimes do sound like private conversations, but it's really only because several of the frequent posters know each other so well.
As for the red-cockaded woodpecker you are looking for, I haven't personally been to Babcock, but I have seen them nesting this time of year (along with brown-headed nuthatch and Bachman's sparrow) at Three Lakes NWR up by Lake Kissimmee. You have to get to the site early in the morning at first light. If you send your e-mail address I can provide you with precise directions. Perhaps others can additionally offer you their alternate sites to find this bird. Happy birding!
