We have had a a yellow rump-butterbutt-myrtle in the yard all winter.
Last winter we had another regular myrtle that thought it was a PABU and hung out IN the squirrel proof feeders with the PABUs and eventually learned to eat the seeds.
Not that big of a deal, myrtles can eat seeds in winter when food is scarce,no?
Well this year the little fellow showed up and decided it is a hummingbird.
Perches in the same tree area where the hummers sit, buzzes the kitchen window if a feeder is low on nectar and attempts to hover at the feeder in another window-actually puts bill to the flower.
It should be noted that there is plenty of other food available to choose from: Wild Bird seed, Finch seed,Niger seed, Sunflower, Zickfood (suet) as well as plenty of hummingbird/ butterfly plants in bloom.
has anyone else ever heard of such behavior??
