Suet probably won't be a big hit during the hotter months in south Florida. It might rot extra quick, but woodpeckers might come. I had them coming to a suet feeder two winters ago. Pileated woodpeckers are probably not that common in South Miami, but a couple may occur in some suburbs with tall trees or in parks where they can live without being bothered much. Two pileated woodpeckers live in Miami Shores where I live with my dad. You probably saw a red-sholdered hawk with its mate. Don't forget the pssibility os short-tailed hawks. Broad-winged hawks hang out in the area, but then again, they don't mate here, so I don't think it would have a mate with him/her. Keep up that birding.
