The first of five active nests for Great Blue Herons sports two chicks, one of which is visible in this picture. The second nest about 40 feet away has chicks also but much younger. The third nest by the entrance boardwalk is still in incubation and I did not visit the other two. Intermittent spitting ran, high winds and cold made for unpleasant conditions but a gaggle of photographers were present at dawns light. Wakodahacthee showed one of the largest concentrations of birds this morning then I have witnessed in four years. Common Egrets were abut 50 in numbers, snowy about 30, GbHerons at 15, put cattle egret, green back ibis and tri colors in and there were about 300 flapping, gliding, flying, and just having a grand old time.
