Cindy..The best spot I know is at 3 Lakes. Go in the north road through the campers. Drive past the bird and tree park sign on the left, half mile in. At the next dirt road on the right turn around and start north again. Stop at a larger group of 6" diameter trees, not back to the sign. You are now looking west. 200 feet in are the marked trees forget them. This woodpecker like the smaller pines and works from 5 feet up half the tree. Stop your engine and just sit and wait. Have camera ready they do not like human movement. It maybe 30 minutes but you will hear them working the area.
