There are plenty of sources for bird data on the web, so I won't list them here, except to heartily recommend Birds of North America online (http://bna.birds.cornell.edu), which is "down" at the moment (modest subspcription fee required).
Florida's eagles are thought to nest during winter because the stress of the protracted incubation/brooding periods would be too stressful for the adults if done during spring and summer, when it's much hotter out. A greater abundance of waterfowl for prey during winter is probably a secondary bonus.
