As a frustrated paritcipant lamented, "The weather gave us the finger." Yesterday's high winds and cold temperatures caused birds to hunker down and make themselves scarce. Despite adverse conditions and interesting clothing combinations, the Long Pine Key CBC was a success with 116 species for count day and 11 additional species for count week. We accumulated 15 warbler species, plus 2 more for count week. Six new species were added to the count list. Along with great new birds, we had some bizarre misses.
The terrific team of birders makes this count fun as well as successful. THANKS TO YOU ALL! We also thank our 3 guys still out in the field, calling us with new birds while we sipped beers at Rosita's.
