Went out to search for the Cassin's kingbird yesterday.
Found the roost but still reviewing the pics to see if I actually saw the bird.
However the trip started quite nicely with a reappearance of the CaraCara pair that frequents Government road between the gas station and the big green metal pole barn.
I decided to go to OceanBoy shrimp farm to look for the snail kites that have moved there from STA5.
I drove right by a juvenile snail kite perched in a tree next to the road -noticed the dark breast and face and didn't immediately register what it was until I turned around and went back to take another look.
Next up was a stinky but intact Hog on the side of the road surrounded by a gaggle of black vultures trying to push and prod and find a way to dinner. If they had a caja china I think they would have had a fine celebration that night, but more likely they will be feasting Christmas day.
Driving past Ocean Boy, I found a lovely scissortail flycatcher with a very long tail on the wires .
Heading back I stopped to see the second Limpkin of the day in a ditch next to the road.I noticed a dried out area next to the car that was LOADED with empty apple snail shells. No wonder the kites like this area. Walking back to the car something caught my eye and I turned back to a landing snail kite with a snail in talons. I noticed bands on the legs and thought that this was indeed one of STA5s birds. But what was that odd feather?
