Tricia:

Awesome find and photo! We have not seen this particular banded/transmittered bird along CR835 nor at STA-5, so evidently, it just arrived. There are five Snail Kites on CR835 and these are not the same birds that we originally thought had moved there from STA-5, since we counted five there on the CBC and they had five more along CR835 near Ocean Boy Shrimp Farms!T hat's a lot of Snail Kites in the area. I'm sure you saw what the SFWMD is doing to that canal immediately across from Ocean Boy Shrimp Farms. Let's hope they don't decide to decimate that habitat past OBSF where the Snail Kites & Limpkins are. That woukld be disastrous! Have you found out who is banding these birds? It may be one of Dr. Wiley Kitchen's banded birdis he's tracking. Dr. Kitchen's is at the University of Florida. If you can't find an e-mail address, let me know. BTW, if you saw a kingbird all by itself and not associating with the other Western Kingbirds on the dirt road leading to Chuck Obern's farm. it probably was the Cassin's Kingbird. . . . Love to see your photos! Keep us posted on the transmittered/banded Snail Kite! Merry Christmas. . . .
