Some tips for differentiating Horned from Eared Grebe: On the face, everything below the "line" of the eye is white, the tip of the bill is whitish, the front of the throat is white, the crown is fairly round, the eye is red, the flanks are gray and the bird lacks the "high rear end" look that Eared Grebes frequently have.
