Wanted to report another "first" sighting for our family. My wife and daughter counted 38 Cedar Waxwings yesterday, 3/28/03, in the oak tree that holds our frontyard bird feeder. They remained in the tree, though, and did not visit the feeder. Since I've never seen or heard of Cedar Waxwings in this area I was skeptical but, after they said they observed the Waxwings with binoculars and then refered to the Audubon Field Guide to North American Birds for confirmation, I was convinced. Those of you who are experienced birders are probably not surprised at this sighting but for our family it was another exciting first. Anyone interested in charting this sighting it was made in Coconut Creek, Fl in Northern Broward County at approximately 5:45pm.
