As the Natural Areas Manager for Parks, I want to assure all Tropical Audubon Society members that we are working to address the concerns of the Commissioner and the Mayor while protecting the natural resources of AD Barnes.

Along the trails, we only removed dead fronds and downed branches within 5 feet of the pavement. We trimmed green palm fronds that overhung the trail to maintain six feet of clearance.

Two small patches of Trema had to be removed. One was to gain acces to a storage trailer that had to be relocated to another park. The other was shading the endangered crenulate lead plant in the circle drive.

Every attempt to minimize impact to the forest was taken. We certainly know and appreciate the fact that Barnes is one of the premier birding sites in Mimai-Dade County.
