Hi Tricia
This Hummer might have been in a situation that required the bird to lose it's tail feathers to escape, this is called Fright Molt. So this Hummer is probably lucky that it made it alive. The feathers will grow back in a couple of weeks. It can also be called Shock Molt, if the tail feathers were missing it is usually from a predator grabbing it by the tail, the bird will just let go of it's tail feathers to get away. Kind of like a lizard when it is grabbed by the tail. We hope this helps.
