Odd sighting for time

A black throated blue warbler just landed at my bird bath and dipped long and deep. Considering the rain we have had and the time of night (1815 hours) it struck me as odd. Then it spent about 5 minutes preening and moved back into the popash and Jamaican Dogwood and didn't come out. Maybe down for the night?

At any rate palm warblers are about in the North Broward area in good numbers and grackles and blackbirds in flocks of 50-125. At Hoechoka Hammock the cormorant, anhinga and Great Blue Heron and Common egret presence is up and catbirds are more visible and heard more often.

A short tailed hawk has been hanging around the Hammock but only in flight. Blue jay numbers are increasing and some must be new because the "pack" fights certain ones each time they come to the feeder. The base group of 15 has been very courteous but these guys catch a lot of scolding.

We just put in another $3,000 worth of native vegetation for all the migrating "critters". Hope they like strongbark, blolly, Dahoon holly, and especially quail berry.
