On Saturday, March 3, 2001 a male and female Dicksissel were seen north of the railroad tracks in late afternoon at the location previously described by John Boyd by Doug Santini and me after a day of birding in Everglades National Park with John Boyd (Thanks John!).There were also 6 Indigo Buntings in varying degrees of plumage. All appeared to be females. The birds were all in one group and went to both sides of the tracks perching in Brazilian Peppers to the east and Burma Reed to the west. Both birds are in breeding plumage. This sighting is very significant for Miami-Dade County and was my first outside of the Dry Tortugas. Our day list was 95 species, which included Scissor-tailed Flycatcher @ Flynn's Sora & Swallow-tailed Kite at Eco Pond, Red-whiskered Bulbul across from Baptist, White-crowned Pigeons & a pair of Mealy Amazons feeding on Loquats at the Miller parrot roost. Life is good......
