Upon further review, I'm now not sure if the Townsend's Warbler was indeed a female. The bird had auriculars and a cap that were clearly black when seen in good light; these areas seemed more olive when seen in less than optimal light conditions. There was noticable black streaking on the flanks, but it did not have a black throat. Reviewing the illustrations in Dunn and Garrett (Peterson Warblers) it seems that the closest match would be 1st fall male. Any comments from birders more experienced with this species would be greatly appreciated.
