You should have birded the fence a little bit more. There's about 100 feet of it missing, which means you can walk right in. Also, should they ever fix that, often times you can go in through the bird rehab entrance.
The park is open Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. But yesterday was Columbus Day, which was a city holiday. The city claims it doesn't have enough manpower to open it on weekends.
