As was probably the case throughout extreme South Florida, the rain put down birds in Cape Florida during the early morning hours. Below is link to David La Puma's fantastic website (Badbirdz Reloaded) which David updates daily during migration. Looking at this loop, if you notice frames ~12-15, you can see the rain intersect a large movement of birds, forcing them to land. Liz and I are learning much from Michelle and David regarding weather and bird migration.

Today numbers and diversity increased in the park, although heavy bursts of rain kept the birds hunkered much of the time. Along with Sharp-shinned Hawk, Merlin, Yellow-billed Cuckoo, Chuck-will's-widow, Eastern Wood-Pewee, Eastern Kingbird and FOS Indigo Bunting, there were 14 warbler species. Mixed in among the usual fall migrants were Swainson's and Prothonotary Warblers. Usually a circum-Gulf fall migrant, an off-course female Nashville was present. We traded with Larry today -- we had buckets of Bobolinks.
