I showed up at Matheson just as Toe was leaving. I waited in the van for about 30 minutes as the rain continued to pour down. I grabbed my camera and did my normal test shot and found that I left my CF Card at home. No photos with out that. Walking up the service road I had 7-8 Northern Water Thrush and several Ovenbirds.
In the Hammock there were even more calling. Over all there were lots of birds to check out.
List:
Ovenbird 6
Northern Water Thrush 10
Wormeating 3
Common Yellow Throat 2
Chestnut-sided 1
Prairie 2
Red Start 2
Black & White 3
Black-throated Blue 5
Parula 4
Cape May 1
Tennessee Warbler 1
Rufous Hummingbird 1
Ruby-throated Hummingbird 1
I had a warbler that I couldn't ID. It was in a small tree about 50 feet away about 15-20 feet up. I didn't have a field guide with me. It was a warbler average sized with pale yellow underneath, yellowish grey head with some kind of pattern on the side of the head and a slight dark eye line. grayish wings with yellow wing bars. Most of what I saw was from underneath the bird and only brief looks at the head. It moved around a lot. I watched the bird for about 1 minute before it moved deeper into the hammock. By this time the rain had picked up even more and I left with my mental notes. - Brewsters???
BTW: This was the first time in 3+ years that I birded with out a camera with me. It was like a vacation. I felt much unencumbered.
