An empid and an unidentified exotic

Any ideas on the identification of a bird that was singing in my
yard this morning? The song was melodic, with two notes slurring upward in pitch by about a 5th, frequently repeated. The bird had a size and shape similar to a female boat-tail, but the beak was downcurved. The head and breast were dark gray, and, most noticeably, the primaries were a glossy rusty in color, contrasting to the glossy black of the back and the secondaries. I am mystified.

Only slightly less mystifying was an empid Sunday afternoon at Taylor WMA just past the casino on Tamiami Trail. I worked out that it was a Traill's.

Good birding,
Susan
