We birded at AD Barnes today from about 5:45pm to 7:45pm.
As soon as we arrived we saw Ruben & his dad Dan scoping the Caper Tree. We watched 2 Red-eyed Vireo for a bit and headed down the nature trail towards the boardwalk. We spotted lots of Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and a Cooper's Hawk perched quietly. We heard one unidentified warbler by the boardwalk and also heard a Yellow-throated Warbler. There was not a whole lot of activity but we did spot a few birds. As we walked back to the Nature Center we checked out a Jesus lizard by the fountain and then headed back to the Caper to look for activity. We watched another 3 Red-eyed Vireo forage the trees around the area.
...That is when I heard a call from the Caper that was not the Vireo and then I blinked twice to check my vision of a flycatcher bird towards the back of the Caper...I focused my binoculars and there sat... a Least Flycatcher. I turned to call Angel that was closer to the birdfeeders and when I turned back around to show him it was gone! Lifer for me!!...maybe next time for Angel. We watched a group of Cardinals eat from the bird feeders. As we left the nature center area the 2 immature Cooper's Hawk came into the area and hunted the Cardinals for a few moments and then both flew off. We then checked out the areas near the baseball diamond and watched a beautiful parrot call out and land in the tree above us. The parrot had a bright red body with purple covering the belly area and wing coverts and yellowish tips on the tail. We called it an afternoon and headed out of the park. As we left right before the park entrance we watched 2 Roosters call out and then perch in a tree together.
On Tuesday on the East side of the park close to the lake area we saw a Great Crested Flycatcher. So that makes 2 Flycatchers in 3 days for me.
Today we saw:
5 Red-eyed Vireo
1 Least Flycatcher
7 Cardinal
2 Cooper's Hawk (immature)
1 American Redstart (female)
1 Yellow-throated Warbler (heard)
15 Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
2 Roosters...(okay?!)
1 unidentified warbler (heard)
1 unidentified Parrot (we'll research that one)
Hopefully the bird radar will bring some birds our way for the TAS walk on Sunday. We are looking forward to it.

Nature is Awesome!
Angel & Mariel
