The heat and humidity was so bad at Wakodahatchee that we were forced away by 10:00 AM. But with the early start at 7:00 we saw several interesting things and photographed a few more.

Baby moorhens, purple gallinules, are about in large numbers and most of them are feeding on the alligator flag seed pods that hand over the boardwalk. Great photo op there.

Two black bellied whistlers came in and several more flew over but were not enticed to land. The two that I photographed were very nervous and flew often but returned to the same place.

Several prairie warblers flew past and landed in the oak trees but did not linger. There are now three extremely large alligators in the retention ponds so come mating season visitors may get to hear the "chorus". The vegetation is now very high and in several places offers picturesque settings if you have the patience. Bring a hat and lots of cold water.

It is worth the view, no crowds, many naive and friendly birds, nice sun and clear sky.....but you will pay the price!
