I suggest going on the next couple of TAS walks when we plan to look for shorebirds. Then look through everyone s scope. You will see the difference quickly. If you look through mine, you will see the bird and usually enough to ID the bird, but when you look through a scope of someone spent their money on their scope instead of a camera and lens, you will see crisp, clear detail with good eye relief. I have an Eagle Optics Scope - Raven. It is the best value for under $400.

Scope and Tripod is about $300

Objective Lens Diameter 78mm
Weight 52.8 oz.
Length 14.25 in.
Close Focus 17 ft.
Weatherproofing Waterproof/Fog proof
Included Eyepiece 20-60x
Eye Relief 20-14mm
Field of View 95-53 ft./1000yds.

If your budget can afford it, make sure you get something with at least a 77mm florite objective lens and that the scope is waterproof and fog proof.

Because you like to take photos, I would check online for scopes that are good for digiscope options. Just google digiscope and you will find many articles.

Good luck...

If you find one you like, let me know. I'm shopping for Christmas also.
