With not much time to bird before sundown we headed out nearby to Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah for an hour. We were hoping to find the Kingfisher & Osprey we have seen there before.

To our delight we saw 2 Black Skimmers (lifer for both of us). There were skimming the lake that is on the right hand side after the entrance. The lake is located directly behind the large hill as you drive in.
We watched them for about an hour and then had to leave because the park closed at sundown. What a sight!

We also saw another lifer Pied-billed Grebe.

2 Black Skimmer
1 Pied-billed Grebe
3 Common Moorhen
2 Loggerhead Shrike (1 caught & fed on a dragonfly)
4 Northern Mockingbird
4 Green Heron
2 Common Nighthawk
1 Red-bellied Woodpecker
1 Snapping Turtle (large)

Not bad for just 1 hour.

Does anyone know of Black Skimmers being seen this far inland in freshwater?
