I am not a biologist, but I am sitting here with a copy of "Birds of the World" and looking at the scientific names. Yes, it is true both birds are in the " Starling" or Sturnidae family, they are not in the same genus. The Superb starling, is Lamprotornis superbus and the Common Myna is Acridotheres tristis. I don't think species that are in different geni ( genuses) can breed and produce offspring. My hunch is that the female Myna had another mate and the Superb is just assuming the role of the mate as is his instinct.

Are there any biologists reading this? please feel free to jump in and explain.
