Hi Joel-
A bit late for a loggerhead to be laying, but I think the eggs are hatching all the way into October ( I think incubation is 60 days). I have heard that sometimes the males will come up on the beach, but this does sound like a female. Techically ( or legally) those people should NOT have been surrounding her, it is considered harrassment. Perhaps she got spooked and didn't drop her eggs! They usually lay at night.
Great picture though!Oops, here we are talking reptiles again.
