Went to Cutler Wetlands this morning to see what was around, and there in the middle of the water on the northwest side of the wetlands was a Flamingo. It's coloring matches a Greater Flamingo. Even if it's an escapee (from the Zoo maybe?) it was exciting to see it standing there for all to see. I am also counting the days for Fall to get here, but it's nice to be able to go to this area where quite a number of birds are spending the summer! The White Pelicans are still there plus one Roseate Spoonbill in the south end. There was also a large number of the usual residents: White & Glossy Ibis, Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, Snowy Egrets, Moorhens & Coots, Mottled Ducks, Grackles & Red-winged Blackbirds, Black-necked Stilts; plus a few Green Herons, Killdeer, Anhingas and Little Blue Herons. An Osprey flew over plus a Least Tern. Pretty busy for such a relatively small place!
