Another good area to go birding-by-kayak is around the Card Sound Bridge. Go south of the bridge and you're in Barnes Sound where there's a big area to explore all the way to Jewfish Creek. Go north of the bridge to Card Point & the FPL cooling canals where there's taller, thicker mangroves. You can put in just before the bridge (by green stilt house) & go in either direction (go under bridge to go north). There's parking and a small free boat ramp. I've seen Audobon Trucks parked there (when they do their annual bird counts?), so it oughta be a good place.
