The bird had droopy wings in the photo. Is it possible the wings looked longer than the tail because the wings were drooping? If the bird was holding the wings tight, might the wings have looked shorter (and thus the tail longer)?
Also even though the bird looks hunkered down - we watched for several minutes and as it moved around a little it never showed longer legs. At one point it settled to where you could not see the legs, but even when it moved out of that position it did not "show more leg".
