Cutler Wetland and Black Point

A quick stop at Cutler Wetland this morning yielded a Pied-billed Grebe, three White Pelicans, lots of waders including one Roseate Spoonbill and both Ibis species, Least Terns, and one Rough-winged Swallow. I heard one Greater Yellowlegs, but didn't see any shorebirds from the pull-off spot near the development, and didn't find the Wigeon. The breeding Black-necked Stilts started raising a ruckus, and I retreated to Black Point for some kayaking. In the mangrove tunnel I startled a school of Mullet that jumped out of the water. The wind was high, and I crossed under a bridge to the quieter channel side of the jetty, hearing one lone Prairie Warbler. At the end of the jetty were three Semipalmated Plovers and one Semipalm Sandpiper. On my way back, as I fought the waves, two Magnificent Frigatebirds soared overhead.

Good birding,
Susan
