Least Terns are already starting to nest at Tigertail Beach on Marco island when I was there yesterday. Other highlights: Long-billed Curlew, migrating Barn Swallow, Merlin, Common Loon, Northern Gannet, Red Knot, banded Piping Plover, possible (but not probable) Brown Booby (don't ask), Magnificent Frigatebird, Reddish Egret plus the other "usual shorebirds and waders, etc. Burrowing Owls along Hernando Blvd. as well. My collier county big Year stands at 166 species so far but i'm missing some "common" species. . . .
