I was surfing at Ft. Pierce Inlet Tues. Dec. 10, and noticed a lot of seabird activity offshore. Could your scaup have been scoters? Of course, I can't take bins out in the water, but I saw a small flock of something scoter-like fly by much further out, dark, low and fast with shallow wingbeats.
