Strong ENE winds kicked up this afternoon and brought in seabirds. I scoped off and on for 50 minutes and with each look there was a steady stream of Northern Gannets. Frigatebirds came in closer than usual.
Best of all was the jaeger show. I have only seen jaegers in "flocks" twice before, but today, that's how they were traveling. First group was 5 dark jaegers; second group was 3 Parasitic Jaegers close enough to see that they were light phase winter birds. A single jaeger flew in the opposite direction. This bird was very dark, definitly heftier and with steady, deep wingbeats. I will call it a "probable" Pomarine. The closest birds were a flock of 8 (!) and seemed to be Parasitics. My last look had 3 jaegers with noticible white in the wings. The birds were fairly high over the water and not pestering other birds.
Honest -- I wasn't nipping at the cooking sherry.
