Bill,

I am sure it was a mixed blackbird flock. Some of the calls buried in the mix sounded Rusty to me; I am very familiar with this species as it is a regular fall and spring migrant in Virginia (some in my backyard next to Huntley Meadows) and this species is uncommon in the winter here, too (my last sighting was in early Feb). But, given the unusual nature of my ENP report when compared to past ENP history and the lack of visual confirmation or recording, I would understand if this report is treated skeptically (I would do so).

In terms of other possibilities, I reviewed my Thayer's CD and Shiny Cowbird would be the closest in cadence and frequency, etc. But I do not think it is a match.

Whatever the case, it was great to visit ENP - an amazing location! - if only for a few hours. I look forward to my next visit!

Kurt
