My first encounter with Purple Swamphens was at the Sheridan Street Wetlands Area while looking for the Masked Ducks about a year and a half ago. Being set for other game I paid them little attention and passed them off as an awkward adolescent phase of Purple Gallinule while casting a suspicious eye towards the large tank on the north end of the marsh as a possible source of excess hormones.
