A visit to Markham County Park this morning produce my first
Purple Swamphens for that spot. There were two on the northwest
side of the levee in the southern tip of WCA 2 being quite rude to
the coots. My best binocular scan for Snail Kites in the same area
turned up seven Kites. American Goldfinches were also around, I
saw about twenty flying overhead in small flocks but I heard many
more calling from the Australian Pines. While working on
Hollywood North Beach yesterday I saw several flocks of
goldfinches the largest of which contained about fifteen birds. It
appears that they are hear in good numbers from the coast to at
least the glades.
