A Great-horned Owl nest is located on the top of the Pine Island Ridge natural area. Go to Tree Tops Park and follow the road all the way to the end to the visitor center. Walk on the trail at the back of the building to the left, past the fence into the P.I. ridge natural area. Climb up the "mountain" to the top of the hill where it forms a junction to the other parts of the ridge. At the butterfly area at the top, turn around (facing back to where you just came from)to the Live Oak to the right of the trail which has a strangler fig root at a large fork about 8-10 feet from the top of the canopy in the center of the tree. The female is sitting in the nest and you can see her "horns" feathers and part of her head above the nest. The male was nearby at the base of a small dead branch, blending right in. A mixed flock of warblers including Black-throated Green, Prairie, Pine, Orange-crowned and Yellow-rumped were in the oaks near the marsh. Also wintering Broadwing Hawks. Tree Tops park is located in Davie about 3 miles south of I-595 on Nob Hill Road or a half of mile north of Griffin Road. Good Luck.
