Hi Elsa,

Like most birds, Red-shouldereds are very territorial at certain time of the year, and they're setting up (or defending) breeding territories right now. So the hawk saw its reflection in the glass and regarded it as an intruder (birds clearly don't understand the concept of reflective glass ...). When their hormones are raging, birds can ignore people and concentrate on more important things -- like scaring off a rival.

You'll often Northern Cardinals pecking a side mirror on a vehicle for days (or weeks) because the "rival" refuses to leave.
