that Scaup

I realize it's old news, but I, tormented by lingering doubts and a perception that the head shape was weirdly angular and not properly rounded looking, posted this bird to the ID Frontiers listserv. Given that the contributors to that list tend to write field guides, whereas I mainly purchase them, I thought I'd see what they thought. Sadly, our scaup generated almost no interest, but the few comments I did get were unanimous that this was definitely a Greater. Then they went back to doing what they mainly do on that list, which is endlessly debate the identity of taxonomically hopeless and essentially unidentifiable gulls, gulls who poop upon the very biological species concept. And I realized why I rarely check ID Frontiers anymore.
