The record dispersal for Florida Scrub-Jays keeps increasing with continuing and additional color-banding and radio-telemetry studies. Right now the distance exceeds 60 km (~38 miles).
But the key point with FSJs is that they seemingly cannot cross more than 8 km (5 miles) of totally unsuitable habitats since they move in short bouts rather than as single long-distance flights. FSJs need patches of scrub habitat to use as stepping stones to disperse.
